Yes! Children at Pathway receive
many things, they receive good and nourishing food, great loving
care, good medical care, clothes to wear, means to travel, special
education, therapies, etc. All these things are good but all these
things need to be modulated and changed as a child grows up, as
a child receives various inputs at this centre.
Children grow
into adolescents and then become adults, their needs are different
at each of these stages, each stage demands different needs, each
phase demands different activities from the children, adolescents
and adults Pathway serves. Keeping in tune with the demands of
every phase,
of every individual
child, Pathway has been active in finding ways and means to address
these issues. Many of the children of yesterday have now grown
into adolescents and many of the adolescents of yesterday have
grown into adults and therefore this centre has been endeavouring
to be at the forefront in offering various skill-based activities
right from their young age.
Children in their
early teens are being encouraged to keep their place of study,
their place of living and their place of play clean and tidy.
All these children have been given good demonstration repeatedly
to clean their work- and -study place at all times. All of them
are rewarded with stars and points for their work. Reward is a
very important reinforcer to achieve higher goals for anybody
and this is very true even in the case of children at Pathway.
Even a casual visitor will be impressed by the atmosphere of cleanliness,
everything spic-and-span, neat and clean.
But the greatest
reward for children who are involved in the vocational streams
at this centre is generous appreciation of their work, that is,
when their handicrafts and other products of labour are bought
by friends of Pathway and other people. This is the right acknowledgement
and the highest recognition, which would reinforce them to perform
better, and better. The recent vocational successes brought a
great happy feeling to the children and adolescents at Pathway.
Pathway friends are delighted to find the children they saw a
few years ago now greatly transformed- almost as if the lowly
caterpillar has been transformed into a beautiful butterfly, capable
of performing more and more useful work and sipping the nectar.
The joy of work has been realised in full measure. It is never
a drudgery but always relaxation.
There was a windfall
from a generous Lion’s club requesting Pathway to supply 2000
‘earthen lamps’ and the order said that each of them should be
individually hand-painted with bright and dazzling colours, and
the order also wanted Pathway to supply a large number of exclusive
bead garlands which the vocational unit of Pathway is already
very famous for. It was a massive spurt of activity, which involved
many of our boys and girls at their enthusiastic best. And more,
this is an area where you can easily do volunteer work by helping
and guiding the children, and thereby finding yourself one of
the best ways of relaxing.
Worried and worn
out, are you? Then do not worry about worry. To try to stop altogether
your worrying might simply be a waste of energy, you may not succeed.
When you are oppressed, tensed and strained, or simply worked
up and exhausted, come to Pathway and join the children in these
vocational activities. It will surely be relaxation; it plays
the trick, as I can say from my own experience. When I first came
to Pathway I was a heart patient, but now I am in perfect health
and there is no sign of any problem, I can assure you. It keeps
me hale and hearty, and I go back to my world with renewed strength.
The vigorous prodigies
of artwork in this centre heal you and create in you a zest for
life. Peace, composure, poise, grace, you will learn in their
company, and thus live a long life. Perhaps you can take home
a keepsake souvenir at a concessional price, to keep company with
you till you come back. And please do speak about the products
to your friends and fetch more orders for our products, we will
be grateful and you will feel good.
